Motivational Speaking

“I’ve opened a pandoras box by returning to the site of a serious skydiving accident for the first time in 25 years where I ended up with serious physical and psychological injuries. A great day of skydiving turned into a nightmare, but I survived against all the odds. I had jumped from 6,500 feet when the main and reserve parachute tangled, leaving me with very little above my head, so I had no control of what happened next. All this time has passed, and I have had a happy and fulfilling life so far. However, I have carried PTSD with me and clear memories of a near death experience that happened before I hit the ground. Every so often the long-lasting events come flooding back to the accident, the positives and negatives from my recovery, the flood of emotions, smells and fear but the overriding feeling of gratitude because I survived.”

My love for helping others to develop and grow comes from personal experience of trauma and recovery following a serious Skydiving accident. If I had had a coach working with me to reach goals, the vision I had for my future and the motivation I needed, my recovery may not have been so hard.

It was not about dwelling on the events that happened, but how to move on to be the best I could be. I needed to “lead myself” with all the skills and attributes the most effective leaders have, inner strength, motivation, resilience, ability to change and emotional intelligence.

I brought these into my career, aiming for a leadership role where I could influence development of others and lead change for improvement. By founding Clarity Change I continue to achieve this aim, developing leaders, teams and individuals to be the best they can.

Joanne’s message is one of “lead yourself” to recovery and through her motivational speaking she tells us how the experiences she has had, both with this accident, her personal life and her career, have led her to believe that  leadership and working through change require the same skills and attributes as those needed to recover from adversity and have the best life possible

“Anything that’s human is mentionable, and anything that is mentionable can be more manageable. When we can talk about our feelings, they become less overwhelming, less upsetting, and less scary. The people we trust with that important talk can help us know that we are not alone.”
